Why can't I find an asset?
Work through these in order. The first two account for most cases.
1. A filter is still applied
Filter state is kept in the URL so views can be bookmarked and shared — which also means a filter you set earlier is still there when you come back.
Clear all filters and search again. Check for a status, category, location, department, criticality, or custom-field filter still set.
2. It is archived
Archiving is the user-facing delete. An archived asset leaves active lists, reporting, and alert evaluation — but nothing is lost.
Include archived assets in your view to find it, then restore it if it should be active. See How to archive and restore assets.
3. It was disposed of
A disposal archives the asset in the same operation, so a disposed asset leaves active lists immediately.
Disposed assets remain available to the Fixed Asset Register for audit.
4. You are looking in the wrong module
UniAsset has four asset types, and they never share lists:

| Supplies that get used up | Dashboard → Consumables |
| A licence, permit, or certificate | Dashboard → Documents |

5. Your search is too specific
Global search covers name, serial number, and identifying fields. Try:
- A shorter fragment of the name
- The serial number instead of the name
- Scanning the asset's QR tag, which resolves straight to it
6. It was never created
If it was expected to arrive by CSV import, check whether the import actually succeeded. Imports fail rows whose category, location, or person names do not already exist.
7. Ask instead of looking
The AI Command Bar answers plain-English questions about your own assets. "Where is the blue forklift?" is often faster than filtering.

Still not there?
Check the asset timeline if you can find the asset at all — it records archival, disposal, and every location and assignment change, with who did it.
Assets are never hard-deleted. If it existed, its record still exists somewhere.
